Using Tables

You may wish to include a table of information on your web page. This is very easy to do with Composer.

First, fill in the number of rows you want to have in your table, and the number of columns.

Next go to Table Alignment and click on Left, Center or Right depending on where you want to position your table on the page.

To finish, click on OK, and Composer will insert a table in your web page for you.

Another use for tables

Tables are very useful on web pages not only as tables, but for making a page display the way you want it to.

When you inserted an image on your web page, you may have wanted to put the picture in the middle, and text on each side. Using a table makes this possible. Let's look at how to do it now.

sketch of a web page designFirst, it is important that you plan your web page. Draw a picture of it on a piece of paper. Where are you going to put your text and where are you going to put images. Try to imagine the page as columns and rows.

In the example shown here, there are four rows. The first and third rows have two columns each. The second row has three columns and the bottom row extends right across the page.

There are various ways in which you could use tables to make this page. One way that you might like to try is to use three separate tables. The first would have one row and two columns, the second would have one row and three columns and the third would have one row and two columns.

When you have made your tables, move your cursor to the left hand cell of the first table and insert an image. You can resize this using its re-sizing handles as you have already learned. Then move to the middle cell of the next table and insert an image there and resize it to your needs. Finally put your image in the right hand cell of the third table.

You can now enter your text in the remaining cells and under the table. Using tables has fixed the position of your pictures and text. Look at it in Navigator to make sure it looks the way you want it to.

I have used tables on several pages of this guide to make sure the images appear in the places I want them to.

You may want to experiment more with tables. It is possible to include a table in the cell of another table.
