First things first

Planning and Preparation

Planning your web page

Before you start to use the computer to make your web page, you need to have a good think.

Put your ideas on paper. You don't have to write down everything, but it is a good idea to write down your headings and to draw boxes for where you are going to put any photos or drawings.  Click here to see an example of a web page plan.

Do you need to get anything ready?

Saving your work

There is one last thing you need to do before you start to make your web page. You need to make a place to save your work.

Open the folder where you have been told you can save your work, and make a folder with the name of your web page. When you give your web page a name, you should only use lower case letters, and you should avoid spaces. If you want to use more than one word to name your page, separate the words with a dropped hyphen '_', like this: 'the_greatest_page'. This will make it easier for the computer software to understand when you want to join your page to the intranet.

Once you have a folder to save your web page in, copy any images you are going to use on your web page to the folder you have just made.

Do it now before you forget!

Now you have decided what you want to do and you have everything you need, you are ready to begin to make your web page.
