Linking Web Pages together

While you have been working through this guide you have been using the arrow keys at the bottom of each page to navigate from page to page. You have also used hyperlinks to take you to pages giving more detailed information. This page is about how you make links to and from your web page using Composer.

You may want somebody looking at your page to be able to look at somebody else's page, or at an Internet page relevant to your topic. You will want a link from your class page to your web page so that other people in the school can see it.

Making a link

On your web page select the text, or image, which you wish the user to click on. Then click the Link button on the tool bar. The Character Properties window will be displayed. Choose the Link tab.

This window maylook familar to you. Like the window for inserting an image, there is a Choose File button. Use this to navigate to the page you want to link your page to. If you want to link to an Internet page, you can type its URL (address) in the text box without using the Choose File button. Once you have found the file you want to link to, its name and location will appear in the text box. Click OK and Composer will make the hyperlink for you.

Now try it for yourself, make a link from your web page, save the page and look at it in Navigator. You should be able to click on the hyperlink to move to a new page.

You have now reached the end of this brief guide to making web pages. You should be able to make a page with Headings, Text and Images. You are also able to put a table in your web page, and use a table to help you layout a page the way you want it to look. This is only a beginning. If you have enjoyed making your web page, explore Composer more on your own and see what else you can do. And don't forget to look at some of the links for ideas on how you can do more interesting things on your web pages.
