One of the first things you will want to do when you start making a web page is to make a heading for your page. There are six sizes of heading in Composer. This image shows the different sizes of heading you can choose from. You choose the heading size from the drop down menu on the left hand side of the Composer format bar. Before going any further with this guide, open Composer. You will have a new blank web page in front of you. Practise making different size headings now. Do not be tempted to change the size of a heading using the font size. It is much better, and easier, to use the built-in heading styles. |

It is possible, and tempting, to change the position of a heading by using the space bar on your keyboard. This is not a good idea. Instead use the positioning tool on the format bar. Simply press the button of your choice for left alignment, centred or right alignment.
When you have your heading where you want it, have a look at your handiwork in a browser. If you press the Preview button on the tool bar, you will be prompted to save your work, and then Netscape will open Navigator and you will see your work the way it will appear on the intranet.
When you are making a web page it is a good idea to keep looking at your work in a browser. That way you can check your page really looks the way you want it to. You can easily move between Composer and Navigator, but you will find you need to press the reload button in Navigator to see changes you have made to your work.

You probably don't want all your headings to look the same. You can change the colour or the font using the colour palette on the format bar. First select the heading you want to change by placing your cursor at the start of the heading, click the left mouse button and keep it depressed while you move to the end of the heading, and then release the mouse button. Press the arrow by the side of the black rectangle on the format bar and the colour palette will appear. Choose any colour from the palette by clicking on it. The heading will change to the colour you have selected. It is also possible to choose a colour before you begin typing the heading. |

Changing a font is similar. Either highlight the heading as just described, or choose the font you wish to use from the drop down menu on the format bar before typing the heading. The list of fonts you see may be different from the one shown here. |

You may be interested to know that the font in this page is Comic Sans MS. The page heading is Heading 1, and the side headings are Heading 3.
If you have been following this guide, now is a good time for you to practise what you have learned so far. Get the paper you drew your plan on, open Composer and make your page heading. If you have a heading for your first section, add that to your page. Save your work in the folder you have made for it and open Navigator to have a look at what you have done.
In the next section, you will add text to your page
