The only decoration on the webpage you have been making has been the changes in Heading style and colour, changes in font style and colour, and insertion of images. There are a number of relatively simple things you can do to make your page more interesting using Composer.

Using a Background

You will have noticed all the pages in this guide have a woodgrain background. It is a matter of taste whether or not you like backgrounds, but they are very easy to insert. You need a small .gif image in a fairly unobtrusive design and colour. You may need to manipulate the image in a graphics program to make it acceptable.

To insert a backgound click Formaton the menu bar and a drop down menu appears. Click on Page Colors and Properties to open the Page Properties window. Choose the Colors and Background tab, and notice the bottom section of the window is headed Background Image. This is the part of the window you will use to put a background on your web page.

Inserting a backgound is very similar to inserting an image. Click Choose File to navigate to the image you wish to use as your background and double click on it. Its name and location will appear in the text box. Check the Use Image box and press OK. Composer will put a background on your web page.

Incidentally, you can also get to the Page Properties window by right clicking anywhere in the Composer window and then clicking Page Properties on the menu that appears.

Banners

Banners are generally used to give a sense of identity to a number of web pages belonging to the same web site. They can be used on individual pages, as I have on this page. Again, it is a matter of taste and I prefer my pages banner free.

However, if you wish to create a banner for your page, you need to make a suitable sized image and insert it as the first item on the page. It's as easy as that!

Marquees and Animations

Here we are moving beyond the realms of a simple web page. If you have made a few web pages and enjoyed yourself, now might be the time to look at a book or follow one of these links to find out how to do more interesting things on your web page.
